I wish I could sit here and write about how I’m getting several thousand hits per day.. that I’ve got a great community building. That I check into my twitter conversations and my blog comments every day and I have to be concerned that it takes too much of my time.. I wish I could say that, but alas I can not. Right now their is one reader to my blog and that’s only if Michele doesn’t fall asleep at night before she opens up the feedly I put on her iPad.
I’m doing ok in the actual IP production part of this blog.. In fact as I write this i’ve celebrated six months and i’m pretty good at maintaining my 3 posts per week. The secret to that is the concept of writing a bunch and then scheduling my posts out. It gives me the buffer I need to be inspired, write notes, and then flesh them out into blog posts. I’m almost six weeks out as I write this. My micro-goal is to get two months out and then spend an entire month working on the long form research and writing.
The lesson I’ve learned and I’m sure i’m repeating myself is that I can’t rely on social media and web searches to get my job done in building the community that I hope will engage in the revenue generating writing product.
When I redesign this blog at the 1st anniversary i’m going to really put some focus and thought into SEO and blog promotions. Maybe Podcast and youtube an audio and video version of my blog.. Maybe it’ll only cost me a fiver for each video post.
All I know is that now that i’ve got the first part done, i’m going to have to really start thinking about the next step.
